NYFW-Fall 2024

New York Fashion Week is the heartbeat of the industry—a place where creativity, style, and high-energy production collide. As a personal stylist, getting a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of two major shows, The Fashion Bomb Daily Show and RISE NYFW, was an unforgettable experience. From styling models to ensuring show-stopping looks made it down the runway, this opportunity gave me a new insight into fashion.

Fashion Bomb Daily: Styling with a Statement

Behind the Scenes with Fashion Bomb Daily and Barnes Media Group at NYFW

The Fashion Bomb Daily Show was all about bold, statement-making fashion—exactly the kind of energy I love. As a volunteer, I played a key role in bringing the show to life, from organizing sponsor gift bags to setting up the step-and-repeat backdrop, ensuring guests had the perfect place to capture their best-dressed moments.

But the real highlight? Getting an up-close look at how designers and stylists craft a runway-ready look. Seeing outfits meticulously curated—down to the perfect accessory or last-minute hem adjustment—reinforced just how much detail goes into every ensemble. It was inspiring to witness firsthand how a strong vision, paired with the right styling, can turn a great look into an unforgettable fashion moment.

RISE NYFW: The Art of Styling on the Fly

If there’s one thing NYFW teaches you, it’s how to think fast and style even faster. At RISE NYFW, I got to experience both Back of House and Front of House, giving me a well-rounded view of what it takes to execute a successful show.

Being backstage is a stylist’s playground. I had the privilege of assisting designer Jonathan Kanye in styling his fabulous models from head to toe. This experience taught me invaluable tips and techniques, which I continue to apply in my work in the fashion industry. Every second counted—adjusting garments, selecting accessories, and making sure everything fit the designer’s vision. The adrenaline rush of knowing your styling choices will be walking down the runway? Unmatched.

Front of House was all about presentation and experience. I helped with ticketing, seating, and making sure vendors and sponsors were prepped—because in fashion, presentation starts before the first model even walks. Watching guests settle in, the lights dim, and the show begin reminded me that styling isn’t just about the clothes—it’s about crafting an entire experience.

Takeaways: How NYFW Elevated My Styling Perspective

Volunteering at NYFW reinforced something I already knew: styling is more than just putting outfits together—it’s storytelling. Seeing designers and their teams work behind the scenes showed me how the smallest details can make the biggest impact, whether it’s the right earring choice or the perfect jacket drape.

For any personal stylist looking to break into high-fashion spaces, here’s my advice:
Be adaptable. Fashion moves fast, and your ability to make quick, confident styling choices is key.
Details matter. A look isn’t complete without the right finishing touches.
Network, network, network. NYFW is the perfect place to connect with creatives who share your vision and passion.

This experience gave me a deeper understanding of the industry and even more inspiration for the work I do as a stylist. And trust me—this is just the beginning. Stay tuned for what’s next! 🚀
